WE INNOVATE | How can we change the world with innovation?

Welcome to Creative Planet Harrow 450!

Wear the same pair of shoes from the age of 8 to 15? Can inexhaustible foods be ‘recycled by just one click’?

At WE INNOVATE, one of the three initiatives of Harrow’s 450th Anniversary, these whimsical ideas come true!

A Better Way to Make a Better Planet

AISL Harrow Schools join with the world’s top 5 institutes to propose five ‘global challenges’ under the theme of ‘sustainable development’ that should be solved urgently.

  • Imperial College London – Can human beings live on the moon?
  • University of Southampton – Can changing our eating habits save the planet?
  • University of Bath, UK – How to make sustainable use of packaging?
  • King Mongkut’s Institute of Technology Ladkrabang, Thailand – How to make future architecture more environment-friendly?
  • Asian Institute of Technology – How to scale up urban afforestation?

These whimsical ideas are generated by 12 Harrow Schools, 641 teams and more than 2,500 students. From theoretical research to product design, from models to real accessories, we change the world with creativity.

Keep up the pace, and see our outstanding projects.

AGE 7-10 GROUP WINNER| THELMA SHREDDER’S 3000 (FOOD WASTE SHREDDER) |AISL HARROW BANGKOK

Winning Team: Thelma-Shredder 3000 , Food Waste Shredder
Winning Team member: Thelma Lemaître

“My favourite part is the process of putting an idea into creativity.”

Instead of disposing, is there any better way to deal with unfinished lunch? After some thoughtful consideration, Thelma reworked the principles of a paper shredder and created the award-winning 3000 Food Waste Shredder.

Drop your food waste in the shredder, which will then do the ‘Waste-to -Treasure’ magic, turning food waste into fertiliser to speed up the circular food cycle. But what Thelma aims to do with her invention is to inspire people that environmental protection should start with “waste less, save more”.

AGE 11-16 GROUP WINNER| STRETCH (MAGIC STRETCHY SHOES)|AISL HARROW HONG KONG

Winning Team: Stretch, Magic Stretchy Shoes
Winning Team members: Prima Wong, Marti Wong, Joshua Chu, Kiran Malyvia, Catherine Zhang,Cyrus Li,Martin Yuen
“STRETCH, designed to grow with you!”

Remember how many pairs of new shoes you had through the school years? Meet the Stretch Team from Harrow Hong Kong, who proposed an answer to this issue. On average, children would need 20 pairs of new shoes by age 11 as they grow. This problem inspired the team to apply the mechanism of a helmet to an innovative design of stretchy shoes that “grows up with you!”

Students can wear these shoes for 5-8 years as they grow. The team believes that such a design doesn’t just mean minimised storage space, but also a huge cut on family spending. The best part? It contributes to a sustainable planet!

AGE 17-18 GROUP WINNER| OFFSET-ME (LOW CARBON APP)|JOHN LYON

Winning Team: Offset-me, Low Carbon App
Winning Team members: Usman Khan, Dylan Ladva, Ben Khan, Agam Marwah, Seth Warnapala
“We are so glad that we can contribute to humankind to achieve a low-carbon diet through creativity.”

Ever imagined that you could tell the carbon footprint of every food with just one click on a mobile app? The team behind Offset-me not only make it come true – they also provide an ‘upgraded solution.’ To adopt a low-carbon diet, we recommend ‘eco-friendly’ food with a lower carbon footprint, inspiring people to save the planet one bite at a time.

Believe it or not, it has gained market recognition. Currently, its estimated value is £120,000.

Perhaps we can download this app developed by international Harrovians that change our dietary habits – from the app market in the future.

Harrow students observe the world around them, and they never stop innovating. These award-winning projects are just a silhouette of a page in students’ creative world.

They break through conventional thinking in the WE INNOVATE creative campaign, consolidating and cooperating among students, brainstorming and actively implementing and winning recognition, embracing the Harrow’s four core values: Courage, Honour, Humility and Fellowship.
